Step 4
Fuse the interfacing to the front and back piece of main body and the heart.
Glue the strips on the opposite sides of the front exterior main piece as shown below. Also glue the heart so that it is centered.
Next, top-stitch two lines on the edge of the strips as shown by the black dotted lines. Use a long stitch length and seam allowance of 1/8″.
Also top-stitch all around the heart using a short stitch length and seam allowance of 1/8″.
Optional: Add ric racs on the strips now if you want.
This piece will now be referred as exterior front main piece.
First, prepare your zipper based on the instructions given in the post How to Prepare your Zipper for Projects.
Step 5
Once you’re done, place the zipper (right side down) on top of the right side of front exterior main piece. The zipper pull should face the right side of the main piece.
Using a zipper foot sew as shown by the black dotted lines in the image below. Use a seam allowance of 1/4″.
Step 6
Place the lining main piece on top of the exterior main piece so that the right sides are facing each other. Align the top raw edges of the lining, main and zipper. The zipper should be sandwiched between the lining and main pieces. Sew as shown by the dotted lines. Use a seam allowance of 1/4″.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other side of the zipper.
Step 7
Bring the two lining pieces together so that the right sides are facing each other. Similarly, the right sides of exterior main panel should also face each other. Next, sew all around leaving a gap of 3″ on the lining as shown by the dotted lines in the image below. Use a seam allowance of 3/8″.
Step 8
Clip all the corners once you’re done sewing the lined zippered pouch.
Step 9
Turn the right side out from the gap that you left in step 7.
Pull out the lining and close off the gap using a seam allowance of 1/8”, folding the raw edges inside.
