If you are like me, wait, the old me then you MUST read this post.
So what was so special about the old me?
Old me didn’t have rotary cutter! š And because of that my fabrics were NEVER straight, sometimes the edges would be slanted, or there would be a bump in the middle, very uneven thus making the whole sewing process quite messy and frustrating.
That’s because I live in a place where sewing and stuff is not so popular. So, if you live in a similar place where it’s hard to find sewing supplies, this post might be helpful for you.
Because, I’m sharing how to cut fabrics perfectly straight without the cutter.Ā
Alright, first thing you gotta do is get this tool.
I found it at a really cheap price at my local craft store. It’s made of plastic, more like a ruler and is the magic behind getting fabrics perfectly straight.
Now I’m gonna show you how I cut a 14″x7″ rectangle perfectly straight.
1) Place the tool onto your fabric. From the top we can see the length is 7″. But we’re not sure if it’s the same from the bottom or not.
2) To make sure, take your measurement tape and check. It’s also 7″. Cool!
3) Now, take a fabric pen (affiliate link) like this and draw a straight line along the edge of your tool.
This is how it should look like. Now cut on these lines.
4) And you’re done! Perfectly straight edges!
And the sides match TOO! Wow!
Ā So that’s it! I hope from now you would be easily able to cut perfectly straight edges and have a happy sewing time.
Here are some tools that you might find helpful.
