Schools have started, yikes! But, I’m skipping the first week because the attendance doesn’t count. Hehe 😉 Planning to finish all the Downton episodes so that I can catch up with the 5th season.
I’m currently on the 5th episode of Season 2 and the twist in plot is just SO DARN SAD! Like seriously?!?! No hope for Matthew and Mary 🙁
Anyhow, talking about college, today I’m sharing this awesome bag pattern perfect for college.
I designed the bag keeping in mind the rush through classes, and all the essentials that need to be carried like laptops, books and all that. Which means it’s one of the big bags that can easily accommodate your laptops too along with few books.
Features a front zipper pocket to easily have access to keep your wallet, phone, accessories etc.
There are additional small pockets that enclose the ribbon loops, where other small items could be kept.
Also features a recessed zipper. The technique used to add the front zipper pocket can be used in any bags to make additional pockets.
These are things you will need for the bag:
Supplies
- ¾ yard of exterior fabric
- 1 yard lining fabric
- ½ yard accent fabric one
- ½ yard light- weight fusible interfacing
- 1 yard heavy- weight fusible interfacing
- 12” zipper in your accent fabric color
- 10” zipper matching the accent fabric
- 2 metal rings (opening should be able to accommodate 1” strap)
- Metal swivels
- Ribbon the same color as the accent fabric
Notions
- Zipper foot
- Iron
- Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat
- Scissors
- Disappearing Ink Fabric Marker or fabric chalk
You can also sell the bags made from the pattern after sending a donation through Paypal to [email protected].
So, what are you waiting for? (AD) Get your pattern here.
I would love to see how your bags turned out. Do share your pictures and reviews here.

I’m glad my college days are long behind me, but I still love your bag. I could easily put it to use while fabric shopping with my tablet and patterns. If you’re looking for another place to share your projects, stop by Etcetorize and join our Make it Monday party. (There’s a giveaway for linked up entries.)
