Alright, now that your mind is made up to get rid of songs and WHY we need to control this minor sin by reading the first post of this series, This Ramadhan….ZERO SONGS! Take the CHALLENGE!, let us now proceed to the guidelines which will tell you step by step how exactly to start getting rid of this evil habit of listening and enjoying songs 24/7.
How to avoid songs?
- First thing towards stopping yourself from anything bad is evoking the feeling of guilt. Do understand that when you share the songs that you are listening to, with your friends you become shameless (like literally), and this goes for any sin. Once you start speaking outwardly about your sins, you turn shameless, and the little good voice inside you almost dies. So the first thing would be to feel ashamed of committing a sin. Feel ashamed of listening to a song. Take it as a big deal. Think ten times before sharing, because if you share you are being the cause of other people’s sins too and hence your punishment has doubled. You can read a lot of hadiths regarding people who spread evil stuff in the society shamelessly. I know this sharing is quite common, we do it all the time, but, it needs to stop.
- Make a pledge to yourself, that no matter what, you are not gonna listen to songs.
- Learn to say NO, and to speak up to stop the wrong stuff. If you don’t have the guts to speak up, just leave the place.
- Distract yourself with other stuff when you feel like listening to songs. Like workout, browse stuff, read inspirational stories, read news, there are so many things.
- Bored? Why not listen to a podcast or audio books or Islamic lectures or anything which does not involve musical instruments?
- Keep a set of hadeeths and Quranic verses (that warn against doing evil things) with you stored as an image in your phone and go through them every time you feel like listening to songs.
- Know that they are just there trying to take you away from the straight path.
- Don’t be around people who are constantly listening to songs and are too into music.
